A week-long auction for a 13-day Autobahn Adventure led to a final bid of $22,000 for a $40,000 trip of a lifetime. All proceeds benefited Hinds Feet Farm an organization dedicated to serving persons living with brain injury.
An Appalachian Region member had booked the Autobahn Adventure but were unable to take the trip and decided to auction it among Appalachian Region in order to raise money for Hinds Feet Farm. Proceeds of $22,000 is a major contribution for Hinds Feet Farm that will positively impact a number of programs.
The Auction went live on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 with opening bids under $5,000 before a $10,000 bid came in followed by a $11,000 bid. The bidding then went quiet until the final day of the Auction, Friday, September 1, 2023.
The Auction was scheduled to end at 5:00 p.m. EST and after a reminder email went to membership the bids started up again with multiple bids of $12,000 being submitted. Auctioneers Jim Moore and Dick Maybach quickly tried to communicate the bid information to members and advised that per the rules established by eBay, the first bid of multiple bids would be considered the winning bid.
It was good that it was determined that he first bid of a matching bid would the winning bid because the Auction ended at 5:00 p.m. with the eventual winner submitting a $22,000 bid at 4:59 p.m. while a duplicate bid came in right at 5:00 p.m. for the same $22,000.
The winner had submitted the initial $10,000 bid when the auction opened on Tuesday and then forgotten about the auction. He recounts that at 4:55 p.m. he remembered the auction was closing and saw the bid was at $20,000. Rather than just raise the required $1,000 increment, he said he was willing to go to $22,000 so that was the bid submitted as his best and final offer.
Both the donor of the trip and the eventual winner wish their names to remain confidential but they are both extremely happy to have raised and contributed the funds to Hinds Feet Farm.
Congratulations to all.
