The Appalachian Region 2022 Holiday Party raised over $5,000 for charity partner Helpmate that helps to prevent domestic violence with shelter for women and their children when they are leaving abusive home situations.

The funds raised by the Appalachian Region Christmas party equates to providing over 100 nights of shelter for women in these situations.

The new for 2022 Public Service Committee selected Helpmate as the Christmas Party beneficiary after being nominated by member Scott Pluene.  As announced at the Party, the total dollars raised for Helpmate are $5,091. These funds were raised by requesting a $25 per person donation to attend and a fundraising raffle with prizes from Porsche Asheville, Porsche certified K&M Collision. Roland Linder detailing, and the Appalachian Region.

The initial fundraising was reported at $4,591, which was a fabulous contribution by members, but President Jim Moore made a plea to members for a final $409 contribution to put the fundraising at an even $5,000.

Porsche Asheville, in addition to hosting the night for over 100 members and having made a contribution themselves, offered up a Porsche Driving Experience for Auction that can be worth up to $1,000.  None of us realized that General Sales Manager Luis Alvarado had auction skills until he quickly moved into an Auction Cry matching the best cattle auctioneers as he started to take bids.

The opening bid started at $25 but quickly rose to $100, $175, $225 and on up.  Finally, Luis with his best auctioneering skills asked for the closing bids. Member Yohan Sookdeo who had a Porsche Driving Experience on his bucket list stepped up with final and winning bid of $500 that provides for 10 nights of housing for abused women and their children.

This final bid put funds raised over that magical $5,000 mark for a total of $5,091 providing 102 nights of shelter for women and their children to escape situations of domestic violence.

Thank you, Yohan and Nalini Sookdeo, for this kind and generous gesture that will help families in the community.

The Christmas Holiday Party Team of L to R: Past President Don Therien, Helpmate Leaders Pam King and April Burgess-Johnson, APR President Jim Moore, Flow Auto Marketer Anita Barber, APR Member and Helpmate Supporter, Scott Pluene, Porsche Asheville General Manager Rhett Blanchard and Flow Auto Marketer Lou Ann Pacula.

The Flow Automotive Marketing team of Lou Ann Pacula and Anita Barber working with the Porsche Asheville team of General Manager Rhett Blanchard and General Sales Manager Luis Alvarado provided an exquisite evening for Appalachian Region members.  This was the eighth Holiday Party hosted by Porsche Asheville since the Appalachian Region’s founding in 2015.

Thank you so much Porsche Asheville and Flow Automotive for the evening.

In addition to the excitement of the raffle and the generous support of Helpmate, members enjoyed an extensive buffet and night of socializing with their Porsche friends.  As Mary Beth Fender said: “These events are special because they let us reconnect with our friends that we have made through the Porsche Club.  It is such a good group.”

I believe others agreed as the party wound to a conclusion at 8:00 p.m. and the showroom was still full with members buzzing in conversation and enjoying themselves.  A good guest knows when to leave, so shortly after closing. members started making their way to their cars.  A room full of party guests until closing is a sure sign that the party was a success and fun night for all.

Thank you everyone for attending and supporting the Appalachian Region charity partner Helpmate.  If you weren’t able to attend the evening but would still like to provide support to Helpmate you can go to their online site:
