From the President.

Appalachian Adventure lived up to its reputation as a not-to-miss event on the Appalachian Region calendar. Over 120 PCA members with 65 Porsches from six states and eight Regions attended AA22 in Blowing Rock.

It was our biggest Appalachian Adventure ever with great tours, a rainy Concours that didn’t deter participants and another exquisite visit to Chip Perry’s Car Barn.

Thank you to Bill Price and his AA22 team for a great event with a special nod to David Butler and his Concours team for dealing with rain and an illegally parked Jeep in the middle of the concours field. See the news links below to read about the entire weekend.

The year is not done yet, as October ushers in two new events with a German theme: the Oktoberfest MANNA Fundraiser and Ein Deutsches Soziales, a night out at the historic Monte Vista Hotel.

The Region has set a goal to raise $10,000 for MANNA FoodBank with our Oktoberfest event. We only have 1/3 of the goal left to achieve, about $3,000. By meeting the goal of raising $10,000 for MANNA Foodbank we will deliver 40,000 meals to our neighbors facing food insecurity each month.

We need your help to achieve the goal, whether it is through buying Raffle Tickets or making a donation to MANNA FoodBank. This requires just 50 of our 393 primary members to buy just three Raffle Tickets for $60. Or, as Linda and I did, make a straight donation as part of our annual giving program. Just click on the link in the Oktoberfest Raffle Story below to make your contribution.

I hope you’ll support and donate even if you aren’t attending Oktoberfest. You don’t have to be present to win the raffle or in order to support MANNA through a donation.

No one should go hungry in the United States. Let’s start with helping in Western North Carolina. Click now to donate towards supporting the more than 109.7000 individuals facing food insecurity in WNC.

In the meantime, I’ll see you at an upcoming event!

Oktoberfest Raffle: How Your Gas Budget Can Deliver 240 Meals for Your Neighbors

We all probably spend $60 or more each week to fill the gas tank on your Porsche. What about if this week you drive a little less and spend that $60 to buy three Raffle Tickets for a MANNA FoodBank donation, or you make a straight donation in an amount within your budget. Your $60 donation can provide 240 meals to families in need.

The Oktoberfest event has set a goal to raise $10,000 for MANNA FoodBank that will deliver 40,000 meals for over 109,000 of your WNC neighbors. For every dollar raised, MANNA FoodBank is able to deliver four meals.

MANNA FoodBank, located in Asheville, North Carolina, is a private, not-for-profit service organization working to end food insecurity in the 16 counties of Western North Carolina (WNC). In WNC, it is estimated that one in six adults and one in four children experience food insecurity and may not know where their next meal is coming from.

For MANNA, demand for food assistance is currently 68 percent above pre-pandemic levels. With supply chain issues, normal food donations are down. Food banks are paying 40 percent more for food purchases to keep up with demand and make up for fewer food donations. Inflation is also impacting our community; in North Carolina the cost of groceries has increased by over 9 percent, and there has been a significant increase in the elderly seeking assistance.

No one should go hungry in the United States. Let’s start with helping in Western North Carolina.

Enjoy an Evening in Germany in the Monte Vista Garden Courtyard

Richard and Barbara Little have planned a new social event titled Ein Deutsches Soziales that continues the successful date night event. Bring your other half out for an Evening in Germany at the Monte Vista Hotel in Black Mountain to enjoy great food and socializing with your Porsche friends. Pisgah Brewery will also be present with a tent featuring their local beers on tap for your enjoyment. The hotel bar located just inside the door will also be serving wine or other drinks of choice.

The Monte Vista Hotel listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in Black Mountain offers the perfect location for a true German Social event. The hotel and it’s restaurant "Milton’s Cuisine and Cocktails" will take you back in time when everything moved at a little slower pace and provides a special feeling hard to duplicate in today’s world

Ein Deutsche's Soziales translates to "A German Social." It occurs on October 26, 2022 at the Monte Vista Hotel in Black Mountain from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

For a price of $50 per person you will enjoy a three-course German-themed buffet dinner in the garden courtyard of the historical Monte Vista Hotel. Taxes and tips are included in the price but beverages are an additional expense.

Additional details on the evening, the menu and registration is available at this link.

Drive a Scenic SUV Tour to an Apple Orchard

Gerhard Hillmann is leading a Autumn Highlights drive on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 that will take you for a waterfalls viewing in DuPont Forest and then through-the-woods and over Pinnacle Mountain to Sky Mountain Orchard to enjoy apple treats.

This drive doesn't require a Porsche vehicle, just a SUV or Truck that you don't mind driving on gravel Forest Service roads through the Forest and off the beaten path of paved roads. The tour concludes at Sky Top Orchard where you can enjoy Apple Cider and donuts and then take a peck of apples home. Complete details are available at this link.

Enjoy Breakfast with Friends in Mills River

The Breakfast Ramble is a week early in October due to Oktoberfest. Join us for Breakfast at the Mills River Restaurant on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. At a Breakfast Ramble you find your own way to and from the restaurant. You will join 20+ members to share breakfast at this casual restaurant serving full country breakfast favorites. You can register at this link.
