The Appalachian Region is adding a Sim Racing League to its event calendar to bring you driving fun over the winter months.

PCA describes Sim Racing as an experience where “The cars aren’t real, but the cars are.™”

The new Appalachian Region Sim Racing League consists of three races in a Porsche GT4 on three different tracks in the Southeast United States.  There will be a race day every two weeks on Saturday morning starting Saturday, January 29, 2022.

The first race on January 29 will be on the Daytona Road Course that Professional Porsche Drivers will be racing on at the same time in the 24 Hours of Daytona.

The next race on February 12 will feature the local Carolina Motorsports Park that many members have driven or plan on driving as they prepare for the new HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) season.

The final race of the year will be at Road Atlanta on Saturday, February 26.  This track is rumored to be on the Appalachian Region HPDE schedule so now is the chance to learn the track before taking your real Porsche out.

The Region created a special offer for Porsche Club members to introduce you to the experience.  You can either buy the full race season of three races for $25 a race; with taxes the season costs $80.25.

If your schedule doesn’t allow you to drive all three races, you can buy a two-race package for $74.90 or a one race experience for $37.45.  These are one-time low prices with the advantage of a really great price of $25 per seat if you buy the entire season or $35 a race day for individual races.

Race day will look like this:

  • 15 minute practice session with the fastest time setting the grid
  • 15 minute Prelim Race
  • 20 minute Feature Race

Points will be awarded based on the Feature Race finishing order that will lead to a season champion after the final race at Road Atlanta.

If you can’t make all three races, just buy one race and come join us. As with any racing series, you have those drivers going for the championship, and other drivers just driving that one event.

All races will be at The Track at Asheville starting at 10:00 a.m. and going until approximately 11:30 a.m.  The Track at Asheville is located in the Biltmore Village area of Asheville, at 9 Reed Street.

Try it, you’ll like it.

Background

Appalachian Region members had their first taste of Sim Racing at the start of the year Tech Session introducing members to the experience at The Track at Asheville.  Over twenty members drove the rigs and raced against in each other in a realistic driving experience.  This isn’t a video game, this is a real racing simulator that closely duplicates an on-track experience.  Professional drivers and pilots use similar rigs to learn their craft before jumping into the real cockpit.

Now you can experience a driving simulator without the cost by renting a simulator at The Track at Asheville.
