Despite a heavy snowfall just two days before, this year's Celebration was a big success with nearly 100 folks attending.
This event, sponsored jointly by the Appalachian Region – PCA and Porsche Asheville, has occurred every year since the Region's founding. As usual, it featured a lavish buffet and a well-stocked bar. (The food was advertised as "heavy hors d'oeuvre;" but "banquet" wouild have been more accurate.) After eating and socializing, we had a chance to meet some of the staff at Porsche Asheville, including Scott Wilkerson, President of Harmony Motors and Service Manager Douglas Urban.
There was a special ceremony where Peter Graham, Region President, and Jim Peterson, Past President, presented retiring Zone 3 Representative, Vic Rola, with a certificate from PCA recognizing of his 45 years with the club. Vic was Zone 3 Rep when the Appalachian Region was formed in 2015 and was very helpful in bringing this about. Peter and Jim also gave him a plaque from the Region thanking him for his help.
As usual, this is a charity event, and this year we raised $2570 (including $500 from Harmony Motors) to benefit Helpmate, which assists victims of domestic violence in Buncombe County. Appalachian member Gary Snipes, who is also on the Helpmate board of directors, gave a brief presentation of their program.
The evening ended with Charlie Schieren, Porsche Asheville Sales Manager, presenting the raffle prizes, including a track day at Roebling Road Raceway.
