The September 22 Breakfast Ramble turned into a Drive and Dine when a group of 11 cars decided to drive NC-80, the Devil’s Whip as a caravan on their way to Little Switzerland for this month’s breakfast social.
It was an early start for everyone to make Little Switzerland by 9:30 am. The drive group met at 8:00 am in Old Fort and used US-70, NC-80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway to reach the Chalet Restaurant at the Switzerland Inn in Little Switzerland.
Other attendees came from all directions using the Parkway, NC-221 and US-19 to reach Little Switzerland. It was a drive, but fun and beautiful with clear blue skies and views of the tall peaks we were surrounded by.
The drive group enjoyed a great view of Mt. Mitchel when they made a stop at the Black Mountains Overlook. The clouds were below us, which made for great photos of Porsches with the high peaks of the Black Mountain range as a backdrop.
The drive group arrived at The Chalet at 9:15 am and met up with another drive group that were earlier on the road. The drivers that chose to find-their-own-way all arrived by the start of breakfast at 9:30 am.
We had 19 cars with a total of 30 drivers and navigators enjoying breakfast together. Cars traveled from as far as Clayton, Georgia, Table Rock, SC, Hendersonville, Waynesville, Asheville and points in-between.
After breakfast we retired to the Terrace to enjoy the great view and break into teams for the drive home. My group drove The Diamondback home, some drove the Blue Ridge Parkway and others took the fast route down US-221. One energetic couple even took a hike at Linville Falls.
What a great way to spend the first day of Fall.
The next drive and dine is a Color Tour Drive and Dine in the High Country. Sign-up is underway for the October 13 drive from Newland to Blowing Rock to Valle Crucis with a mini-show and lunch in Banner Elk.
See you in the High Country!
