Appalachian Region-PCA: Upcoming Events

Annual Picnic and New Member Social
The Appalachian Region Annual Picnic and New Member Social is rapidly approaching on Saturday, June 9th, starting at 5:00 pm. Registration is open until 5:00pm June 3rd: information/registration is available via this website link: picnic information/registration. This year’s picnic is ‘no cost’ (please bring a dish to share) and is being held once again at the Ramble in Asheville: this year sans birds as the Ramble has now taken measures to prevent birds from nesting in the pavilion. Please plan to join us!

Appalachian Adventure 2018
This year’s Adventure will be held at the Resort at Lake Chatuge August 17th through the 19th. Friday afternoon will feature a new feature/challenge: a Gimmick Rallye on the roads around Lake Chatuge. Lake tours will also be available. Click on Appalachian Adventure for more information. Registration is still open on Room reservations may be made by calling the hotel directly at 706-896-2262; unfortunately, our group rate has expired (but feel free to ask anyway).

AR June Board Meeting
Our next Board meeting will be held this Thursday, May 31st, at 4:00 p.m. in the conference room at Porsche Asheville. All members are welcome to attend.

High Performance Drivers Education
A two-day HPDE will be held at Roebling Road Raceway on June 2nd and 3rd, sponsored by Coastal Empire PCA. Registration closes 5/31. To register, go to All information about the event and Roebling Road Raceway is posted on the website including schedules, costs, discounted hotel rooms, meals, etc. We have several members signed up already.

AR Wednesday Social
Our next social is being held at the Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard, Wednesday, June 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. As usual, just show up and look for the white AR name badges.

Breakfast Ramble
The Breakfast Ramble is quite a successful event; so much so, that it will be a monthly event tentatively scheduled for the third Saturday of each month. Saturday’s Ramble to Randevu in Cashiers had 23 in attendance (out of 36 registered) despite the inclement weather forecast. My nephew, a prospective Porsche buyer/PCA member, drove Claudia’s 951, loving it even with wet roads. Next month’s Ramble is planned for Saturday, June 23rd, to Hot Springs and the Smoky Mountain Diner. Any one attending April 2015’s D&D to Hot Springs can tell you that these roads are some of the best around (including the Rattler: NC-209 from Waynesville to Hot Springs). More details to follow...

On the Stump
Today is Memorial Day: a day during which we pay tribute to those who died during active military service. It is said that a veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life." Today we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom.

Peter GrahamHave a happy and safe Memorial Day!
