The Appalachian Region’s Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains are one of the top destinations to enjoy the changing of the leaves color so it is only fitting that the last drive of the season is the Fall Color Tour.

This year’s drive was planned and managed by new members John David and Alexia Budko.  The drive was supported by new to the region members David Angelus and Dianne Bienick, Dick and Millicent Duccini and Jim and Linda Moore.

The weather was questionable leading up to the drive but clearing skies brought out 19 of the 21 Porsches registered with 39 members in attendance.  We had 911’s, a 944, Caymans, Macans and Cayennes on the drive.

This drive consisted of enjoying the natural beauty by land and lake as the drive originated on the Blue Ridge Parkway before connecting with the Drover’s Scenic Byway on the way to the Lake Lure Marina.  The drive down Drover’s Highway proved to be a challenge navigating the twists and turns on damp, leaf-covered roads in the midst of a bike race that was unexpected.  Experienced, safe Porsche drivers brought us all to the Marina.

The 45-minute drive rewarded the club with the highlight of the trip as five Pontoon Boats toured club members around Lake Lure with informative Captains who provided highlights on the sights we were all seeing.orrainewith our new Caymans.”    Boat five had everyone on board ready to buy a property on Lake Lure as the million dollar homes were viewed with their breathtaking lake views and access.

After the hour boat ride John and Alexia delivered an extra bonus drive from the Marina to the Rumbling Bald Resort via the little known but exciting drive of Buffalo Shoals Road that provided a highly technical, fun drive for the Porsche drivers.

No one knew what to expect with the different lunch plan, but the extensive buffet with white tablecloth service and a beautiful view provided a level of dining not often experienced on the club drive and dine events.

Hunt Deutsch summed it up best:  “We had a little bit of color, a fun land and lake experience topped off with a great meal at a stunning location with other Porsche owners. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
