On August 15 to 18 we returned to The Ridges at Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee, GA for our fourth annual Appalachian Adventure – what a weekend!
It was a gathering of the flock of motoring enthusiasts from several Porsche Club of America (PCA) regions and states, converging for four days of Porsche camaraderie and fun. Everyone began arriving Thursday afternoon at The Ridges Resort Hotel in Hiawassee, GA for the events registration, an opening social hour, to make new acquaintances, and to renew old friendships. There was an open dinner on the first evening to take advantage of the many varying local restaurants, followed by dessert, “S’mores” by the hotels fire pit. Many also watched a full moon rising over the mountain top and a thunderstorm light show from across the lake, while being serenaded by our own solo guitarist, (Bob Disney).
Friday morning, the green flag dropped and the hearty road warriors began the day by trekking up several twisty roads climbing to the summits of Bell Mountain and Brasstown Bald (the highest mountain in Georgia) to view the magnificent 360 degree scenery. Others attended a gimmick rally and/or a technical session quiz. The day ended by having a social hour to discuss the day’s events, to enjoy a Fajitas buffet dinner, and of course, to enjoy more “S’mores” by the fire pit.
Early Saturday morning brought last minute car washes and cleanings in preparation for the late morning’s Adventure Concour’s with some 40+ Porsche’s participating in nine (9) different classes. Saturday evening brought the final social hour just prior to the closing dinner, guest speaker (Douglas Urban from Porsche of Asheville), a comical awards ceremony, and of course, to enjoy more “S’mores” by the fire pit.
Sunday morning brought departures in multiple directions by the members of the various regions and states that attended the weekend’s terrific event. Many members also took several final self guided back roads mountain tours on their way home to include “Tail of the Dragon”, the Cherohala Skyway, and other notable scenic twisty routes.
We’ll see you next year on September 17-19 for some more S’mores!. We'll announce the details later, but put the dates on your calendar now so you don't miss it.
The slide show below shows some of the activities we enjoyed in almost perfect weather; additional photos appear here.
