Greetings Appalachian Region - PCA members,

Here’s another update on what’s new and exciting with the Appalachian Region - PCA.

Please remember that the Region website is your primary go-to place for Appalachian Region-PCA news and information. If you don’t find what you are looking for just send an email (, and we will try to steer you in the right direction.

APPALACHIAN REGION REVIEW David Butler did a nice job of compiling an inception-to-date summary of the Appalachian Region - where we were, where we are today and where we are headed. It is posted on the region website attached to the minutes of the 12/5/15 annual meeting where the review was presented. In brief, through a solid collective effort we have come a long way in a short period of time. The best news is that there is considerable upside potential and opportunity for our new group. Thanks for the documentation and review effort here David.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS At the 12/5/15 annual meeting the newly elected region officers for 2016 and 2017 were voted into office effective 1/1/16.  They are:

  • President - Peter Graham.
  • Vice President - Don Therien.
  • Secretary - David Butler.
  • Treasurer - Matthew Pohsweg.

Please join me in congratulating these individuals and providing them with your participation, support and input as they help move the region forward. I look forward to serving the region with them as Past President.

APPALACHIAN REGION - PCA CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY PARTY FOR THE BENEFIT OF MANNA FOODBANK This was a great event on 12/8/15 and was attended by over 90 PCA members and guests in addition to Harmony Motors personnel. Harmony Motors/Porsche of Asheville hosted the event at its facilities and co-sponsored the festivities with the Appalachian Region - PCA.

Cindy Threlkeld, Executive Director of MANNA, was a special guest and addressed the group. Mary Nesbitt, Chief Development Officer of MANNA also attended. We raised $2000 and collected a barrel of food for MANNA at the event to help MANNA in its efforts to end hunger in Western North Carolina.

The party provided a nice opportunity for members to mix and mingle while enjoying live music, hors d’oeuvres, wine/beer and a short program introduced by Charlie Schieren of Harmony Motors. During the event region officers presented Charlie with a plaque in Appreciation and Thanks for the ongoing support that he and Harmony Motors/Porsche of Asheville have provided to the region throughout the year. Photos of the event and a brief commentary appear on the region website.

HARMONY MOTORS IS THE 2016 APPALACHIAN REGION - PCA PLATINUM SPONSOR Not hesitating for a moment, Charlie Schieren and Harmony Motors/Porsche of Asheville have stepped forward as the Appalachian Region ‒ PCA Platinum sponsor for 2016. This commitment provides great support for region events and activities in 2016 including:

  • Appalachian Adventure - a multi-event weekend in August (8/12-14/16) at Fontana Village Resort. (You won’t want to miss this event.)
  • 2016 Christmas Holiday party charity benefit at Harmony Motors/Porsche of Asheville (second annual.)
  • Printing of the new Appalachian Region - PCA brochure, which will be distributed soon and available at Harmony Motors/Porsche of Asheville and to PCA member prospects at select locations throughout the region.
  • In addition, Harmony Motors has promised to host tech sessions and a variety of Porsche-related events and activities that should be of interest to members throughout the year.

Harmony is truly an exceptional partner and a great supporter of our new region. Please keep them in mind as it relates to your current and future needs for vehicles, parts, service and accessories.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES ABOUND! Yes, yet another friendly reminder of the variety of volunteer opportunities that awaits you with Appalachian Region ‒ PCA. This is really about how you can maximize your enjoyment as a PCA member - here you not only attend and participate in events and activities, you help make them happen and make new friends while you’re at it-all while enjoying your Porsche. Not a bad deal!

The website lists region committees - all welcome additional volunteers. In particular at this time we have needs for help in areas including communications/marketing, events, special events (Appalachian Adventure), historian/archivist, merchandise/Goodie Store, and Treffen (a major National PCA event scheduled for Asheville in 2017.)  I invite you to give this issue some thought and let any of the officers or committee chairs know if you have interest.

This is my final update as President of the Appalachian Region - PCA. It has been a great experience and I have enjoyed the opportunity. What I find most fulfilling is the fact that all the progress and accomplishments that the region has achieved has been due to the collective efforts of a really great group of PCA members. You are to be congratulated for how you have helped bring this region from inception to where it is today - with a bright future up the road ahead.

Best wishes to you and your family for Happy Holidays, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
