Thank you to everyone for your contribution to the Boys & Girls Club with your Luft Wasser™ donations.

The funds raised will help serve local youth in the areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character & citizenship, and various art programs. These programs plus additional services such as bus transportation, meals, and snacks are provided at The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County to over 500 youth during the school year as well as the summer.

Luft Wasser™ is now in its seventh year as an event. Three years ago, the Appalachian Region of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) partnered with The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County to make Luft Wasser™ a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls of Brevard and have since raised close to $40,000.

Luft Wasser™ is based on celebrating Porsche with recognition of its history of air-cooled (Luft) and water-cooled (Wasser) Porsches; two significant engineering milestones in the company’s history. 206 Porsches participated in the event with 352 PCA members.

The earliest model participating was a 1957 Porsche 356A T1 Coupe with every model in between, up to three new 2024 Porsches including a 718 Cayman, a Cayman GTS and a 911 Turbo S. Participants traveled from seven states and represented 10 PCA Regions and area regions.

The premise of Luft Wasser™ is a takeover of downtown Brevard as the city closes Broad Street for the 200+ Porsches to be displayed with the backdrop of this beautiful mountain town. Special displays this year included over 30 air-cooled Porsches, a dozen Transaxle Porsches and close to a dozen performance-oriented track Porsches.

The day starts with six driving tours originating in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The driving tours converge on Brevard in a coordinated arrival. In addition, the City of Brevard Police lead a 63-Porsche Parade into town for those drivers who wanted to find their own way to Brevard.

The day is spent meeting Porsche friends, enjoying the cars, shopping and eating at one of the fine restaurants of Brevard. This year the Pisgah Bakehouse set up a pop-up wood-fired pizza restaurant that served over 75 pizzas during the lunch hour.

Fund raising for the Boys & Girls Club is achieved by a $40 registration fee per car and extra donations made by participants. Over half the funds raised were the result of participants contributing in excess of the base registration fee. Porsche owners really opened their hearts and wallets to support the kids of Transylvania County.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Luft Wasser™ Porsche Celebration in Brevard and made extra donations to help The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County.

I thought you all might appreciate reading the comments from the Boys & Girls Club Resource Development Director, Karen Phillips:

"WOW - $17,788 raised is a record-breaking year for this event for us!"

We are so grateful for all the hard work, time, energy and effort put forth by you, your Board, and all Appalachian Region PCA members and Porsche drivers from near and far that participated in Luft Wasser™!

I said it to you on the phone early last week, but saying it to this group - your organization is a well-oiled machine as far as events go, and always has the nicest people driving into Brevard, strolling around and supporting our Boys & Girls Club.

So let me echo something similar to what you said in your previous message, "We within The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County are so happy that we have able to be the beneficiaries of the Appalachian Region PCA's Luft Wasser for the third year now in order to serve the youth of Transylvania County!

The Luft Wasser™ Porsche Celebration is held the last Saturday of April with registration opening on March 15. We hope to see you in 2025.

See you in Brevard in 2025! Jim Moore, Appalachian Region President
