A summary of our recent and upcoming events.

Message from the President...

April started the "Porsche Fun Season" with the weather turning nice, the roads became clear for driving and the Porsches have come out of their garages.

The month started with a Mountain Driving Clinic conducted by Chief Driving Instructor Dan Dazzo and led right into the Tour de Lake Lure to introduce 63 new and existing members to our popular Drive and Dine events.

We just concluded the Luft Wasser Porsche Celebration with 206 Porsches and 352 members enjoying the takeover of downtown Brevard, North Carolina. Best of all we raised over $17,000 for The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County. This is up from $11,116 in 2023. Donations included proceeds from the registration fees, extra donations by participants of $4,604, a $1,000 donation from the Appalachian Region PCA and a single matching fund donation of $5,000 by a PCA member and Brevard resident. It was a wonderful day for the kids, Porsches and PCA member participants.

But, the "Porsche Fun Season" is just getting started.

On May 15 we will open registration for our Summer Picnic that will return to The Ramble on June 22. We'll once again use the beautiful green lawn to display our Porsches while we enjoy a picnic.

You'll also want to save two dates in the Fall: September 5-8 for Appalachian Adventure, our multi-event weekend that returns to the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club and Saturday, October 12 for our Fall Harvest Festival MANNA FoodBank Fundraiser (formerly known as Oktoberfest).

In between these events we of course have drives, socials, AppCafés, performance events and breakfasts. Watch the calendar and the twice-monthly newsletters that will announce the upcoming month's events and registration dates.

See you on the road having fun in your Porsche!

Jim Moore, President Appalachian Region PCA

Asheville: Moose Cafe, 570 Brevard Rd, Asheville

Hendersonville: Eggs Up Grill, 637 Spartanburg Hwy, Hendersonville

Waynesville: Haywood 209 Cafe, 3360 Crabtree Rd, Waynesville

May 16 - Social Mixer at Highlands Brewing

We'll meet at Highland Brewing Company, 12 Old Charlotte Hwy, Asheville, NC 28803, http://highlandbrewing.com.

If the weather is good we'll be in the meadow, around the right side of the brewhouse; if not, we'll be in the inside taproom. In either case just look for the white badges. They have a food truck, so you can have a snack or a meal with your beer.

Equestrian Driving Tour: Fun for Families and Adults on May 18 - Sold Out!

The Equestrian Driving Tour takes the Appalachian Region to the Internationally renowned Tryon International Equestrian Center on May 18 for “Saturday Night Lights”.

The tour will leave late afternoon (Time tbd, but expected to be about 4:30 p.m.) from the Ingles Parking lot in south Hendersonville and end at the Equestrian Center around 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival, you’ll be able to enjoy live music, shop or gather with other drivers for dinner at one of the four restaurants on site.

The horse jumping competition starts at 8:00 p.m. There is no charge for the show, so enjoy the competition as long or short as you want. The only charge is $10 (cash) for parking and what you spend on your meal or at the shops.

This event is sold out, but the wait list is open at this link.

Performance Driving Events - Registration is Now Open

High Performance Driver's Education (HPDE) at Road Atlanta

Experience the performance attributes of your Porsches with other Appalachian Region members under the guidance of a trained instructor in a safe track environment as opposed to the open roads of Western North Carolina.

Whether you are a first-time driver or an experienced "Track Rat" join other Appalachian Region drivers at the June 1 and 2 HPDE at Road Atlanta hosted by the Peachstate Region. Appalachian Region normally brings 10-12 drivers to the track. To register click on this link, which will take you to Club Registration.

Note: If you need a helmet, the Club has a loaner helmet that can be provided for use at the event.

Autocross on May 26 with Wilderness Trail

Join Appalachian Region Autocross drivers at the May 26 Wilderness Trail Autocross event at Dave Crockett High School in Johnesborough, Tennessee. The venue is just over an hour away and provides an Autocross event for Appalachian Region members to enjoy with other Porsche-minded drivers.

If you haven't tried Autocross yet with your Porsche, you owe it to yourself and your Porsche to try this performance experience of navigating a course set up with cones in a parking lot for timed runs. Only one car at a time is on the course and cars attain low overall speed so the only safety equipment required is a helmet. If you need a helmet, Appalachian Region has loaner helmets.

Appalachian Region Autocross Chair Jake Kooser is coordinating this year's Autocross activities. For more information you can reach out to Jake with this link, or go direct to the registration site at MotorsportsReg.

Save the Date for Appalachian Adventure: September 5-8, 2024

Event details will be finalized by the end of May/early June with hotel reservations opening June 15 and event registration opening July 1, 2024. Save the dates of September 5-8 now so you don't miss attending this highlight of the Appalachian Region year: Appalachian Adventure '24.
