Appalachian Event
Exercise your Porsche Macan or Cayenne, or other make SUV on the terrain it was designed for: the unpaved, gravel roads of the National Forests surrounding the Asheville area. Rob and Susan Doudrick led our first off-road drive in 2018 and it was a big success so Rob and Susan volunteered to lead Off-the-Beaten Path II.
We’ll have the Safety Briefing at 8:00 a.m. with an 8:15 a.m. departure for a 60 minute drive and conclude with breakfast. Our Porsche sports-car-only drivers can meet up with the SUV drivers for a breakfast ramble at 9:45 a.m. The restaurant is Mills River Restaurant in Mills River.
The 8:00 a.m. Safety Briefing will be at the Ingles on Brevard Road across the street from the Asheville Outlet Mall. At our 8:15 a.m. departure we'll proceed down to the Parkway where we'll drive a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway before connecting with Forest Service Road 5000 off the Parkway. A seven-mile drive through the Pisgah Forest provides a nice easy off-road excursion suitable for Macans and Cayennes, even those with low profile tires.
At the conclusion of the drive we'll stop for a late breakfast and meet-up with the Breakfast Ramble sports car drivers about 9:45 a.m.
Two options exist for registration: 1) SUV drive and breakfast or 2) Breakfast only. We can accommodate only 12 cars on the drive. If that option doesn't appear on the registration form, it means we already have that many, but you are welcome to join us at breakfast.
