Craggy Gardens Drive, Hike and Picnic
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a day with APR members for a tour on the Blue RIdge Parkway.
This drive will consist of two drive groups of 12 cars each. The first drive group will meet at 9:00 am. at The Blue Ridge Parkway Visitors Center and make a stop at Tanbark Ridge Overlook on its way to the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center parking area. The group will then hike to the Craggy Pinnacle which is a moderate hike of about 6 tenths of a mile and should take about 20 minutes each way
The hiking group will be joined by Appalachian Region member David Angelus who is a Lead Volunteer for the National Park Service. David will provideus with an overview of the Craggy Gardens area at the Pinnacle. After the group decends from the top, we will drive down to the Craggy Gardens Picnic Area for a picnic lunch.
Drive Group 2 will meet at 10:00 am. at the Parkway Visitors Center and stop at the Tanbark Ridge Overlook before driving directly to the Craggy Gardens Picnic Area to enjoy a picnic lunch.
After lunch, both drive groups will drive back down the parkway to the Folk Art Center to explore the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
