SUV Tour

Our July SUV Tour will be a true SUV activity. Roads are about 60% paved rural roads that are not normally part of our rides. The remainder are local rural and forest service roads that are in good condition and easily navigable by any SUV. Tour Lead Bill Price states: "I'm taking my newly purchased Cayenne, so I’m confident." (Since we don’t all have a Cayenne or Macan, any SUV or appropriate vehicle is fine. We will start on the east side of Hot Springs and cross the French Broad at Barnard Park. Continuing on the west side of Hot Springs, we will follow the French Broad on the old Buncombe Pike drover road before ascending up Paint Mountain to follow Paint Creek.

The tour will begin at the Trust General Store and Café on Highway 209 at the intersection of NC63). (14535 NC Hwy Nc 209)

Safety briefing will be about 12:45 with departure about 1:00.

Join us at 11:30 or so for lunch at the Café if you wish. Or come a little early and check out the Trust General Store.

We will travel a combination of paved and well-maintained forest service roads on the east and west

Nort Northam, who knows the area intimately will be the guide. Travel time is anticipated to be about 3 hours, and we will end up at the Big Pillow Brewery in Hot Springs around 4:00-4:30 for a beer if you desire. (

If you find you need to cut the ride short, there will be easy opportunities to leave the group and get on 25/70 or NC209.
