Oktoberfest Driving Tours & Celebration Party

Oktoberfest Celebration for MANNA FoodBank

The Appalachian Region announces the 2nd Annual Appalachian Oktoberfest Celebration to support our Charity Partner MANNA FoodBank.  The day starts by driving one of three tours (from Asheville, Hendersonville and Waynesville) that will arrive at The Old Bishop Place Farm in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina for an outdoor Oktoberfest party with an authentic German-themed lunch from the famed Haus Heidelberg, Trip Advisor award-winning German restaurant.

You’ll have a chance to win door prizes, play Oktoberfest-themed games, participate in a ticket auction and socialize with friends; all in an Oktoberfest Biergarten setting including an Oompah band.

Appalachian Region's Oktoberfest is Saturday, October 28, 2023 with drives starting at 8:30 a.m. The Oktoberfest Party is from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The parking corral is expected to feature over 100 Porsches of all makes and models.

How the Oktoberfest Celebration Supports MANNA FoodBank

While Oktoberfest 2023 celebration is planned for the enjoyment of our members, a key element of our celebration is the Appalachian Region’s community support commitment. The Appalachian Region has supported MANNA FoodBank since before APR was formed in 2015. The impact of food insecurity in WNC has increased since that time. As of May 2023, MANNA and its Partner Network served more people in one month than ever in the organization’s 40-year history. Over 155,000 individuals received much-needed food at a food distribution in the month of May. Prior to 2020, MANNA served an estimated 65,000 people each month.

Across the board, the members of its dedicated MANNA Partner Network are reporting increases in the numbers of senior citizensfamilies with young children, and employed individuals who work full time yet still can’t afford food.

Our neighbors across WNC are right now facing an ongoing socioeconomic perfect storm: skyrocketing housing costs combined with steadily rising living costs, including food and transportation. Paired with wages that – while rising, are hardily keeping up – these factors are straining already-stretched budgets. MANNA and its network of food providers is often the thing helping a household scrape by from one month to the next. Neighbors attending markets, report that without MANNA support and its Partner Network, many would have nothing to eat.

Please help those suffering food insecurity. Let’s make this Oktoberfest Celebration special; donate so that our WNC neighbors have food to share with their families. For more information on MANNA FoodBank efforts visit https://www.mannafoodbank.org/.

Drive in an Oktoberfest Tour, or... Find Your Own Way

There will be three simultaneous tours with start points in Asheville, Hendersonville and Waynesville. The routes will be led with the traditional lead/sweep formation.

Each tour will have enjoyable mountain curves and sweeps along the route so that you drive what we consider to be "the best driving roads in America". All the tours conclude with a meet-up of all participants at the Oktoberfest Celebration at The Old Bishop Place Farm in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina.

  1. Asheville Old CCC Tour: The one-hour drive from Mills River to the Old Bishop Place Farm will use some terrific backroads not many know leading to the hidden gem of the paved Old CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) road that will take the tour groups into Dupont Forest before arriving at the Old Bishop Place Farm.  There will be two tour groups of 13 Porsches each.
  2. Hendersonville Devils Fork Tour: The Devils Fork tour departs from Flat Rock and will travel for about an hour down Gap Creek Road to the new for the region, Devils Fork road.  The drive culminates with the always exciting drive up US-276 past Caesars Head to arrive at Old Bishop Place Farm. There will be two tour groups of 13 Porsches each.
  3. Sylva (Waynesville) Wolf Mountain Tour: The Wolf Mountain Tour will provide a new route for members in the Waynesville/Sylva area.  A meet-up in Sylva will take the tour down NC-107 to NC-281 where you'll climb up and over Wolf Mountain before connecting with East Fork Road near Brevard before arriving at the Old Bishop Place Farm.  This tour will have one driving group of 14 Porsches.
  4. Find Your Own Way:  If you prefer to find your own way to Oktoberfest at the Old Bishop Place Farm, this is an option too.  We ask that you arrive between 11:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m for lunch being served at 12:00 p.m.

Enjoy the "Biltmore-like" estate grounds of the Old Bishop Place Farm

The Old Bishop Place Farm is a private 600-acre manicured estate located in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina.  The grounds will remind you of the Biltmore estate grounds as you enjoy the various walking trails, ponds, and moss garden as featured in Guns & Garden Magazine. A highlight of the property are the unique metal sculptures scattered throughout the grounds such as the Fly Fishing Sculpture pictured above or the Harley Hens of mom and her chicks that you should look for, made from chrome Harley Davidson Motorcycles' exhaust pipes.

Help MANNA FoodBank Put Meals on the Tables of WNC by Donating

Oktoberfest is planned as a MANNA FoodBank fundraiser so there is a cost of $75 per person to attend. This includes your meal, beverages and a donation to MANNA FoodBank (half the ticket price is a donation to MANNA).  There will be an opportunity to make a donation separately to MANNA FoodBank. 100% of contributions to MANNA FoodBank will go to MANNA Foodbank. There will be no administrative costs involved. You'll be provided with a tax receipt for any extra donations provided.

MANNA FoodBank, located in Asheville, North Carolina, is a private, not-for-profit service organization working to end food insecurity in the 16 counties of Western North Carolina.

The Appalachian Region Oktoberfest has set a goal to raise $10,000 for MANNA FoodBank. Meeting this challenge will deliver 40,000 meals to over 109,000 of our neighbors facing food insecurity each month.  For every dollar raised MANNA Foodbank is able to deliver four meals.

There are three ways that you can contribute to meet our goal of raising $10,000 for MANNA FoodBank.

  1. Register for Oktoberfest: Registration for the Oktoberfest Celebration is $75 per person.  This includes an authentic German meal, a German beer or wine and one raffle ticket where you can one of five door prizes.
  2. Ticket Auction: An on-site Ticket Auction will be conducted for three high-dollar special items: a Ceramic Coating from the Porsche-Certified Collision Shop, K&M Collision, a special Porsche Design Garmin EPIX Watch donated by a member, and a second Ceramic Coating from IR Auto.  The ticket auction works by having you buy tickets at a cost of $20 each or six for $100 that are available at this link or for purchase on-site.  At the Oktoberfest Celebration you will then drop ticket(s) in the container for the item(s) that you want to have a chance to win.  You can put one ticket in each container, or if you buy multiple tickets you can put as many tickets as you want in a container if you want to increase your chances of winning.
  3. Make an Extra Donation: Two Appalachian Region Sponsors have agreed to support our fundraising effort with matching fund contributions. K&M Collision is providing $1,000 in matching funds while Hagerty Insurance is providing $500 in matching funds. Make an extra donation or buy auction tickets so MANNA earns these funds.

To meet the $10,000 Fundraising Goal it is important for everyone in the Region to participate, whether you plan on attending or not. You can still donate to MANNA FoodBank with a contribution and/or buying Auction tickets to participate in the Ticket Auction.
