Pinnacle Mountain Adventure
Drive Off-the-Beaten Path to Waterfalls and an Apple Orchard
Join your fellow Appalachian Region Porsche Club members in a day of driving and exploring Dupont State Recreational Forest in your SUV or Truck. It doesn't have to be a Porsche; any brand is acceptable.
We will gather at Burning Blush Brewery at 10:30 am to sign waivers and depart at 11:00am. We will then caravan to the Hooker Falls parking area where there are restrooms and trailheads to two water falls.
Hooker falls is a .3 mile trail and triple falls is a .4 mile trail. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in this area. After exploring the falls we will caravan again to Pinnacle Mountain Rd, a gravel road that gains 1500’ in elevation. This is rated as a high ground clearance vehicle road and is perfect for novice or beginners. After the gravel section the road turns into a fantastic, paved, twisty mountain road, demonstrating the diverse abilities of these very capable vehicles.
Near the end of Pinnacle Mountain Road we will stop at Sky Top Orchards for a rest and to enjoy what the orchard has to offer. Folks can purchase apples, cider, and baked goods including pies and apple cider donuts. I highly recommend the baked apple hand pie.
From the orchard we will return to Burning Blush Brewery with the option to enjoy a cold beverage before returning home.
This is a category 2 drive defined by PCA as:
Dirt, gravel, rock, ice, snow or sandy road with infrequent or light maintenance, with ruts
or exposed rocks up to 5”. 4WD/AWD SUVs, pickup trucks or off-road rally cars
required (not stock sports cars/sedans). Grades up to 10 degrees or 17%. Two vehicle
passing still possible along entire route.
Any make of vehicle is welcome on the drive that has > 5” of ground clearance.
You will need to fill out a self-inspection safety checklist available here.
Sign up with the link below and remember to bring a picnic lunch, plenty of water, a two way radio if you have one, and cash for the orchard. They do not accept cards. Let me know if you can assist as a lead or sweep.
I look forward to seeing you on the Pinnacle Mountain Adventure.
