Breakfast in "The Heart of the Blue Ridge" at the Randevu, 18 Chestnut Square Hwy 64 in Cashiers, NC.
After the rousing success of Joe Watson's first Breakfast Social, the Appalachian Region will have another Breakfast Ramble providing a holiday drive through the mountains on Memorial Day Weekend.
The destination is "The Heart of the Blue Ridge", Cashiers, North Carolina that sits on a mountain plateau at 3,480 feet of elevation. Cashiers and the restaurant Randevu are at the intersection of highways 107 and 64 so there is easy transit from all corners of the region.
Randevu offers all your breakfast favorites, plus such specialities as Crab Cake Benedict, a Philly Cheese Steak Omelet and Belgian Waffles. As one Yelp reviewer said: "This might be one of the United State's BEST kept secrets..... and I'm not exaggerating. Everything scratch made, everything delicious, the setting couldn't be any more charming..."
Besides the great dining we'll experience, Cashiers provides unique shopping opportunites with boutiques and antiques, the Village Green Sculpture Garden and the 1852 Zachary-Tolbert house that has survived intact for 150 years without the modern conveniences.
The highway 64 drive between Cashiers and Lake Toxaway is considered one the top ten scenic drives in North Carolina. The area features numerous waterfalls, including Whitewater Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States. Mapquest says it is a 1.5 hour drive from Asheville, so you'll want to hit the road about 7:30 to be at breakfast by 9:15 am.
