Little Switzerland Breakfast Ramble
Breakfast in the North
The Chalet Restaurant at the Switzerland Inn (86 High Ridge Road, Little Switzerland, NC 28749) will be the site of our September breakfast. Not only is it a great location but also there are so many terrific driving roads to get us there you’ll have fun no matter which route you take. This is a Ramble so find your own way.
Breakfast is at 9:30 am. to allow for the travel time to Little Switzerland. If it is a nice day, we’ll be out on the terrace, if the weather isn’t the best they’ll put us indoors.
Here are some of the great routes to drive to Little Switzerland:
- Blue Ridge Parkway: provides the beauty and leisurely drive that makes this national park the most visited annually. It is a 50-mile drive that will take about an hour and a half.
- Devil’s Whip: This 12-mile section of NC-80 climbs over 1,200 feet with over 50 turns. Just take I-40 east to 70 through Old Fort, turn left (north) on NC-80 and you are “off to the races!” You’ll come to the Parkway where you complete the drive into Little Switzerland. This route will also take about an hour and a half to cover the 55 miles.
- Diamondback: The 226A section of Diamondback is a great roadway of twists, turns and smooth pavement. If you choose to come to Little Switzerland this way drive I-40 east to exit 81 Sugar Hill Road to NC-221 North. When you come to NC226A bear left and start the thrill. This route will take about an hour and a half to cover the 56 miles.
- Quick Way: This way will take you a little over an hour to get to Little Switzerland from Asheville. You’ll drive some nice roads, but more importantly, it gets you to Breakfast fast. Just take I-40 east to exit 81 Sugar Hill Road to NC-221 North. Take this to 226 into Little Switzerland.
A last minute addition to the event. If you want to drive in a Caravan of Porsches to Little Switzerland, members will be meeting up in Old Fort at the McDonald's at the base of exit 73 off I-40 at 8:00 am. The caravan will leave Old Fort down US-70 where we will turn north on NC-80. This route will take us along Lake Tahoma and then wind us up the Devil's whip with more than 50 turns in 12 miles with a 1200' elevation gain. At the end of the Devil's Whip we connect with the Blue Ridge Parkway to drive into Little Switzerland.
If you desire, you can still find your own way to Little Switzerland. It's your choice, but we would like you to register below so we save a seat at the table for you.
